Volunteer
It takes the dedication of many individuals and service organizations to maintain and improve the grounds of Camp Kiwanilong. There are several opportunities available for local participation, and even for “voluntourists” from outside the area.
Twice a year, organized work parties come together for repair or new construction projects. In the past, this has included new floors, roofs, siding or gutters.
Other groups also take part, including:
- the Astoria Rotary Club, that build a suspension bridge over one of the few remaining peat moss bogs in western Oregon;
- youth groups, that raised funds to donate a new canoe and kayak;
- a school, that donated a new fishing dock;
- and the Job Corps, that brought young adults to the campsite for landscaping and trail maintenance.
